The Third National Congress of Actors

Theme: Re-envisioning a Non-profit Theatre based on Major Acting Companies
One hundred and fifty leading stage actors will be invited to participate in a two-day discussion of the role and efficacy of “acting companies.” Discussion will stem from examination and debate over a proposal for four designated “National Theatres” housing major acting companies for four-month seasons. This proposal was outlined in the July issue of The Actors Center Journal.
Six panels of actors, directors, artistic directors, playwrights and Board members will debate the merits, limitations and implications of the  proposal, against the background of current non-profit producing practices and achievements. Resulting recommendations will be forwarded to the National Endowment for the Arts, major Foundations, TCG, and others. A full transcript of the proceedings will be published on The Actors Center website, and reported on here.

Dates: January 15 and 16, 2011. Saturday and Sunday, 10am to 6pm each day.
Place: Baruch Performing Arts Center, Lexington Ave and 24th street, New York City

Admission is limited to the 150 invited delegates, who are each asked to donate $100 to help meet expenses. We have an additional 25 seats available for those who have reason to be there, but are not on the invitation list. If you wish to apply, please send your resume and a brief note to Philip Carlson at philip@theactorscenter.org. For non-delegates, we ask a $200 donation. We have chosen an intimate, 175-seat setting because we believe this to be a critical debate. Only those who have an invitation in hand will be admitted.
